Just so you guys know - we're planning the 2nd Honoring the Animals Paw Wow here in SATX. You're welcome to come. Visit us online at www.apachedelrio.org.

Save the date!  Dancers, Vendors & Sponsors needed  on March 21st, 2008 from 10am to 4pm!

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

Join Apache del Rio Intertribal as we honor our animal brothers through partnership with Danza Azteca de Yanaguana Tejatzlan and the Animal Defense League of Texas. ADL has allowed us the use of their property to sing, dance and socialize on this wonderful first day of Spring. The "Honoring the Animals" Paw Wow is an event for cultural sharing. The American Indians who participate do so because of their traditional beliefs and a desire to share with those willing to learn more about our heritage.

The "Honoring the Animals" Paw Wow continues to attract attention from the local community, ADL patrons and the American Indian community. We receive no support from the state or any tribal government or agency but are solely funded by individual and public donations. Proceeds are used to fund worthy Native American programs, particularly educational programs for youths.

Powwow participants (dancers, drums, elders, and families) often travel from other parts of Texas, as well as other states at their own expense. It is customary for these people to be given an "honorarium" to help with their expenses and time away from work. The honorarium is especially critical this year with the high price of gas and troubled economy. The "Honoring the Animals" Paw Wow is asking for your help. Honorariums make this powwow possible, and your sponsorship of a dancer or drum is vital to the powwow in its mission to share the Indigenous traditions of the San Antonio area and of Texas. If you can help with a donation, please use the pdf form found HERE. Thank you for your consideration.

This year we have chosen the Jicarilla Apache creation story of the dog and man as the theme for our 2009 Powwow. The story goes that when Hactcin made the dog in his present shape, he took some of the yellow from the afterglow of the sunset and put it above each of the dog's eyes. He then took some of the white from the morning glow and put it on each paw. This was a sign that the dog would always protect people. Hactcin spoke to the dog and asked where he would stay. In response the dog asked him to make some people so that he would have companions. So Hactcin created people and at the first sight of Man, the dog was very happy. He jumped at the man and ran back and forth just as dogs do now when they are glad to see you.

We believe that the Earth's spirit is drawing the Eagle from the North and the Condor from the South to unite, and that it is the responsibility of each of us to unfold the prophecy. It is imperative to life on this planet that all people should come together for the healing of all people, the land, the animals, the waters and the air.

I haven't forgotten any of you! Sorry that you haven't heard from me - I have had the absolute worst head cold and still kept on working! It nearly killed me! I finally feel like me again - aren't you glad? Here's a cute video I found that shows that there are other people who know what happened in the history of this nation - surprise, surprise! Bless this little girl...and bless the people in her life that encourage knowledge!

Pay attention to what you read. After you have finished reading it, you will know the reason it was sent to you. Here goes: People come into your life for a REASON, a SEASON or a LIFETIME. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on. Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season . LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime. Send this to every friend that you have on-line, including the person who sent it to you. If you get: 0 Replies - you may need to work on your "people skills" 2 Replies - you are nice but probably need to be more outgoing 4 Replies - you have picked your friends well 6 Replies - you are downright popular 8 Replies or More - you are totally awesome (and that's probably why you're on MY list)

My friend Catherine took this photograph near Sabinal Canyon in Uvalde County. She was surpised to see an albino vulture and amazed at how healthy it looked. What a true blessing it must have been for her to have seen such a rare bird. I can't help but be envious!  ~Eugenia
